Yo ho, let’s go! If my three year old’s excitement is any indication, Fisher Price Disney’s Jake and the Neverland Pirates Toys are sure to top the list of top Christmas Toys 2013. Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys have quickly staked out the number one spot on her Christmas wish list, and according to the major toy stores, they are expected to be among the most popular gifts under this year’s Christmas trees.
I was personally a bit confused when the Jake and the Neverland Pirates Disney Jr. TV show came out and received such top billing on Disney’s schedule, but I guess that shows I’m not the target audience; my preschooler loved Jake, Izzy, Cubby, and Captain Hook the first time she saw the show. I have to admit I was quickly won over as well – Jake is an earnest little pirate boy who holds a special kinship with Peter Pan, and his cute, often distressed little friend Izzy and her magical pixie dust is also an endearing little character. Add sneaky Captain Hook and his nemesis Tick Tock Croc and you have a winning pirate crew. Leave it to Disney to make Bucky, their pirate ship, an integral part of the cast and crew, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys are shooting straight to the top of the list of gifts keeping Santa’s little elves busy this year.
If you’ve seen any episodes of Jake and the Neverland Pirates on Disney Jr., you know that Bucky is the little pirates’ ship that has a personality all its own, and is involved in all of their adventures. This makes him the perfect foundation for a fun, engaging toy. It also includes the fun, catchy music that makes the show so peppy and fun.
Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky is the main Jake and the Neverland Pirates toy that has been released for Christmas 2013. I have compared online and in stores, and the best price I have found is on Amazon.com – they have the best price and free shipping. Click here to see their current sale price and shipping offer.
Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky is on wheels, and wobbles back and forth slightly as you push him along, which is a fun feature – it makes it look as though the ship is actually moving forward on waves and water.
Bucky the Pirate Ship comes along with a few accessories – an action figure Jake, Skully (one of his sidekicks), and three plastic waterballs that can be shot out the cannon on the front of the ship. That is actually a really fun feature – your kid can load the cannon, push a button, and the water cannons will pop out. They can pretend to be sinking Captain Hook’s ship.
Tick Tock Croc (who has always been one of my favorite characters) pops out of a hidden trap door on the side of the ship. He does not come off of the ship, but he is included in the pack of action figures that can be purchased separately if you think your kid will want him to take center stage in playtime.
Bucky also has a button that plays 25 different songs, pirate phrases, and voices that your tot will recognize from Disney Jr.
There is a feature on the crow’s nest where you can attach Jake and spin him around as if he were flying upon occasion. Remember, even though Tinkerbell gave Izzy pixie dust, it’s only for emergencies – like when Captain Hook is on the hunt!
The ship also features other fun play items, like a slide that will let Jake and Skully hop on and slide from the deck to the ocean below. Jake carries in his hand the special wood sword that was given to him by Peter Pan.
Why We Love Jake and the Neverland Pirates Toys
First off, Bucky, Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship, incorporates a lot of the fun details about the show that make toddlers and preschoolers love it. It has a lot of interactive elements that really prompt the imaginations and creative play of little ones. Details, like the ship swaying back and forth as if it were going over waves, and the incorporation of a lot of the items you see on the ship on the show, really make this a winning toy.
This toy helps kids with creative play and manual dexterity; there are a lot of features to be played with. Also, the pieces can be stored inside the pirate ship whenever they’re not in use; we adore anything that leads to tidiness.
The Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys and shows appear to be aimed more at little boys than little girls, and it is typically stocked by the boys’ toys in our local stores. However, my girl – and several of the other little girls in her playgroup – is nuts about it, so these toys definitely cross the gender lines.
My daughter has been fascinated by Jake and the Neverland Pirates like no other show; she absolutely loves it and begs for it over any other movies. That is enough of an endorsement for me.
Why Everyone Else Loves Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky
Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship has awesome reviews on Amazon, as do most of the other Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys.
From reviewer Mary -
“I bought this item for my grandson for his 4th birthday. It was a hit!! He carries it everywhere with him. He has dropped it and…”
What Goes With Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship
Don’t forget to order extra AA batteries. Though it comes equipped with a set, if your kid loves Jake as much as mine does, you’ll want some extras. Since my kid seems to burn through batteries in her toys at amazing speed, we’ve taken to buying the jumbo-sized packs to keep on hand.
Also, Jake needs more friends! Although Jake can fly around the crow’s nest, savvy little Neverland Pirates fans will know that he can only fly if his buddy Izzy has thrown some magical pixie dust on him. However, Izzy is conspicuously absent from this set. Izzy can be purchased riding her own water jet racer, or as part of the crew of action figures that includes Jake, Cubby, Captain Hook, and Tick Tock Croc. Jake is also available riding his own water jet racer.
Captain Hook’s Battle Boat is another great accessory. The price is really good, and it gives Bucky a target to shoot with is water cannons and reenact all of Captain Hook’s shenanigans.
Captain Hook’s Adventure Rock is another one of the larger Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys. Your kids will know exactly what this is from the TV show, and will be able to plan adventures for Jake and his friends.
17” x 16” x 6.5”. The complete toy in packaging weighs about 4 pounds.
Recommended Age for Bucky
36 months to 6 years old
The manufacturer recommends this toy for children 3 years old and up, I know of some two year olds that LOVE Jake and would enjoy playing with this; however, some of the parts can break off, so younger children would have to be supervised if they are given this pirate ship.
Where to Buy Jake and the Neverland Pirates Toys for the Best Price
I’ve been following all of the Top Christmas Toys 2013 lists, and so far this toy has appeared on every one I’ve checked. Know what that means? I’d order it NOW from Amazon, where you’ll find the best price and free shipping, or you may be scouring empty store shelves in a frantic, fruitless pursuit reminiscent of Tickle Me Elmo.
